Photo resizing software
I've found a really neat solution to photo resizing.
I take and post a lot of photos. As anyone who has posted a photo knows, they need to be resized to 800x800 pixels or so or they won't post because they are too big. Previously this was a tedious one-at-a-time process in a photo editing package like photoshop or similar. However, I recently discovered a free package called Faststone Photo Resizer. This stuff is great! http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm You can download it at the address above or go to Cnet and get it there. I've had absolutely no problems with it got no spam. What you do is open the software, point it at the directory you want, select the photos you want to resize, and click convert. Once you select the photo size option in advanced options (I use 800x600 pixels with preserve aspect ratios), it remembers it and the whole process takes just seconds. I've learned to put my photos in directories by subject. I now create a sub directory in each subject directory called 'small' and select that as the destination directory. This means I don't have to change the photo name. Good package!

THANX Kerry! Have thousands of photos to scan & re-size and although I can't speed up the scan part, it looks like this will definitely help w/the re-sizing...O.G.

If you have Microsoft Office Picture Manager, it is pretty easy to do multiple pictures at one time. I stumbled onto it one day when I was compressing a lot of pictures. I was doing them one at a time up until that point.
1. Right click on a picture and select "Open With" and then office picture manager. 2. The picture opens up. 3. Just above the left corner are three icons. Click theone on the left that looks like it has four images inside the box. 4. Now all of the images in the folder are displayed. 5. Click on the first picture to be compressed so that it is highlighted. 6. Push the shift key and then click on the last picture to be compressed. All picture between the first and last will be highlighted. 7. Click edit pictures. 8. On the right side of the screen click "Compress Pictures". 9. Select your size. I normally click "Documents". 10. Hit "OK". 11. Once compressed hit save and you're all done.

I wanted to bring this back up. We have a good many new members who may not know that there are ways to resize a lot of photos at one time.
Faststone is a great program...and it's free! I've developed a process that helps keep things organized. 1- I have a unique directory for each project 2- I download directly from my camera to the project directly 3- I run FastStone on the new photos (really, really easy) 4- When I get to the select destination directory part, I create a new SUB directory under the project directory called SMALL. 5- FastStone will resize the photos and put the smaller photos in the new 'SMALL' directory. I used to spend a lot of time renaming images. Now they keep their original names and the directory they are in lets me know what and where the image is. If I ever want the larger photo, it's easy to find.
