1935 Bugatti T57 Stelvio, Prototype 01 The frame
This is an endeavor which could not have been possible with out the help of Will Cronkrite and Scott White. Scott scanned the original car I was restoring from the frame up and sent all that data to Will who made drawings in Solid Works for almost every part of the car, engine, frame suspension, braking system etc. The bucks and jigs he made are on other threads on this site so I am only going to document the actual work on Prototype 01 which is the first of five complete cars I plan on building. It will start literally from the frame-up. In order to start a project of this scope I had to build a welding table 4' x 16' with a 1 1/2" thick table top in order to mount all the jigs Will designed. The table weighs in at 6500 lbs and is as solid as a rock. It is a combination of welding, layout, huge dolly, stakes and has different radius ground all the way around the edges. The first batch of photos will show how the chassis was welded together and how the other necessary parts were fabricated.

Prototype 01 Engine and Body Framing
The engine used for this car is a Series 2 XKE which is almost identical in size with about a 100 more horsepower than the original Bugatti. The transmission fits perfectly and will make this an easy substitute. The only problem with the engine is clearance for the the 3 carbs so I will have to install the two carb setup.
I work by myself so the chassis had to be disassembled to take off the welding table and reassembled on the floor so the engine mounts could be fabricated and the body could be framed.

Nice to see the progress around the doors and the rear fenders. I wish I could have had stayed longer after our trip to Dan's. I have got all the pieces made for the frame for Kent's air hammer stand and die holders, and the hammers are being rebuilt and updated at Kent's as we speak. I am anxious to get the upper and lower dies that he is making for use in shrinking, and when I get all the attachments gathered I will have both Kent's air hammer and Peters wheeling machine to use as you are doing to move forward on those aluminum fenders and body parts. I have approached Kent regarding having an aluminum welding, etc. class here in the Southeast. I spoke to Shannon today and the parts for the brass hinges that go on the hoods have been water jetted and are ready for pick up.

Very very cool, Jim and Will. It's quite impressive to see so much work coming together. Thank you for documenting and sharing so much.
Still, in nearly every picture, I keep seeing the table- that is a table....

Amazing work Jim. Absolutely amazing.
How did you build the table? Have you acquired a forklift since I was there last?

Jim & Will
Great progress! Nice to see the progress, documented so well! After seeing some of the components being worked on at events it is nice to see how they fit together. Thanks for posting all the photos. Steve
