Default Fender flares

Is there any old threads on this site on a step by step how to make and weld up fender flares?

Something about that widebody on low race car that keeps me staring.

Search on "fender flares" shows several hits. This is the one I was thinking of:

Also check out Ron Fournier's Sheet Metal book (sorry, I have read a couple of them and forget which one it is in). He has a good step-by-step with lots of pictures, on a Fox body Mustang I believe.

I have an album on metalshapers showing several flare methods in steel:

And my youtube videos also showing several different ways to make steel flares:

You can stretch the existing metal, or roll panels over your leg to fit a structure that outlines the wheel opening and makes a hammer form for the flange, then stretch, or roll over your leg and weld, then stretch.

Thanx Kerry thats a cool thread and a nice looking firebird lol.

Shawn I have the book you speak of, I read that thing atleast a dozen times lol, just trying to see other ways to tackle it.

John thanx for the videos and pics, I remember watching those videos a few months ago, never thought I would be talking to you on a form lol. Nice job on the flares car looks great.

I have a 98 audi a4 quattro, thinking about doing a flare on the rear quarters, its a 4 door so I think its gonna be alittle tricker, usually I can you at a car and think about what it would look like with a widebody but with my car I can't picture my own design. Sucks because I'm stuck at the drawing board...

A stiff paper mock-up held to the car with small magnets can help with design ideas. You can make a temporary wheel opening form out of tubing to have something to design to.

John's suggestions are right on.

If you want a different approach that you could make a flexible shape pattern from try a Burt Buck:

I had a how-to thread on MetalMeet but it was among the lost content. I'll write a new one when I get a chance.
