I don't think it's been mentioned but you can do some planishing with a wooden or a leather faced slapper against a steel dolly. These softer materials will average out the highs and lows with less stretching. Also, Cass has talked about using a magnesium hammer or slapper to fine finish aluminum. The theory being that the magnesium tool being softer than aluminum, will slightly deform while rearranging the aluminum.
