I got to the party late . The way you were headed you should have kept going when you had it tacked to the top. Here is a link to a guys youtube vid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXzsZ7j4Dj8 If you watch it long enought he tacks his patch over the old panel . He then cut thru both panels and tack weld a little at a time and then mig weld as he goes. He has a lot of good vids of doing things with basic hand tools and a mig welder and a lot of grinding.

Thats not someone I want to learn from. I am aware of his popularity surge on the HAMB but don't understand it and certainly didn't expect to see the same here. I haven't been able to make it more than a couple minutes deep on his stuff and the one you linked is entirely irrelevant.

But! Thanks anyway.
