Backwards
Greetings,
I would like to know why This Forum reads BassAckwards? It's nice when you want to come and catch up on the Last few post But it's contrary to most every society except maybe a few. For new Guys coming here for the First time it's very confusing. I talk on the Phone Daily to Guys, many of which have checked this place out with Very Good Comments. The only down side I've heard so far is that it's backwards. I'm open to new ideas, is there a reason for this? Thanks for answering my Question, and as Always Great Job with this Site. Joe Andrews

Check your 'User CP'
If you go to your 'User CP' link you should be able to change the order that messages are dispalyed.
I have mine set to display oldest first (what you want). I think the default is newest first.

I don't know why it defaults that way...Tim is off line a couple days and I don't see anything to change...we'll look into it....

O.K. Thanks for the Replies, and Thanks Joe for the Call.
The problem was in my user CP, half way down in "Edit Options". Half way down the next page in the 3rd section, "Thread Display" Mine was set to Newest First. Problem solved. Thanks!

Joe, glad you were able to fix your problem.
The User CP allows the members to set up many things on the site. This is where you can add a signature, Avatar and set how they view the site. As Joe said you can see the first post first or you can see the last post first the option is yours. To change the order click on the User CP in the header of the page. Scroll down to Setting and Options. in that section you will see Edit Options. Click on that and in drop down you will see Thread Display Mode. There are four options. Select the one you want and go to the bottom of the screen and click on Save Changes then you will be good to go.

Back up and running here with Verizon DSL.
The default was set that way because a number of posters originally complained that it was backasswards to begin with - myself included. Can't please everyone all the time, so the options can be changed If anyone is having problems changing their settings, PM me and I can take care of it. Tim D. |

THANKS FOR BRINGING THIS UP.
Mine is better now. I remember Johnny telling me to look at the first page of something (another thread) one day it took me a while to figure out what he was talking about. Now it is fixed. I like it much better fixed. THanks guys. I always feel like an idiot bringing up things that are so simple to others. I guess that is how you learn. THanks, Bill |

Ok, more details on why it is backwards to some -
The VBullettin default is "Linear - Newest First", the stting that looks backwards to most. there were some complaints and the AMS default was set to "Linear - Oldest First". All members who joined prior to the setting being changed apparently were not affected. All users who joined AFTER the change are either used to something else or have no idea why folks think it is backwards. At the time of the change, Jack was the only one with access to rebuild the member list and apply the newest changes to everyone so we just had to deal with only affecting newer registrations. This thread: http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=160 shows the changes were made on 6/10 - I couldn't remember when it was changed. Anyone who joined before 6/10/09 MAY have to change theor settings, based on their preference. Sorry if this caused any confusion. Tim D. |
