Mike, This is a one-shot, down and dirty buck. I'm only concerned about rigidity, accuracy, and symmetry. It will hit the burn pile
when I'm done with it. I'll be keeping the rear fender bucks when I get around to building them.

I won't be doing any hammer forming on this buck but I will on the fender buck. If this one is rigid and stable it will do what I need. As a side note, after attaching just this small amount of wood to the body, I'm starting to understand why Detroit reinforced the early bodies with wood.

First station from the back roughed in. I won't do the final shaping till they're all in.

I had to go in to the hospital Wednesday for a surgical procedure. All went well but I'll have some down time. Maybe a week or two before I can get back to light duty.

I started feeling a little better today. Nowhere near 100% but the weather was good and I needed to get outside so I got some time in on the car. I trimmed the rest of the upper quarter where the original steel will roll inward to meet the new shape.

Next I continued making templates and rough shaping stations one by one. I got stations 2 and 3 finished and installed and started on number 4. That's as far as I got today. There's no rush, I just needed to get out there and get something done.

Thanks, Marcus. I'm moving slowly but it feels good to get back to work.

I finished roughing in the stations for the rear deck today. There's one more part to this buck that is a more complex shape. The forward most part is contoured in the horizontal and vertical plane. It'll take a little more effort to do that one. I'll start on that next, then go back and tune up the contours on all of them at one time.

Default Woodworker

Sometimes I think to do metal shaping you also need to be a very good wood worker. Fred26t
