Learning how to restore rusty Mopars
Good day,
just joined this forum to learn how to shape metal for replacing rusty panels on my 2 1972 Satellites. I've got alot to learn, and at being over 50...it won't come easy! Thanks, Mark |
Welcome Mark, I discovered this community when I was 51 wanting to restore rusty mopars also (Imperials in my case). It's amazing what you can learn in a few years if you're willing to pay your dues. That is, get off the couch and shape some metal.

Hi Mark and welcome!:)

Thanks for the welcome. I've got a cheapo bead roller and and a sheet metal brake, so hopefully I can cobble together some patch panels for the trunk floor and get moving on the 1st Satellite project car that was supposedly nearly "rust free". I want to be able to get the trunk solid again without buying a complete trunk floor pan. We'll see!

Hi Mark and welcome.
Learning starts with the first hammer blow. Age is of no concern. Jere |

Here's the first of many patches....there are a few in the trunk floor, I may try my hand at using the bead roller to copy the grooves in the pan.

patch looks great! one of the first things these guys are going to tell you is to make your corners of your patches round where you weld them to the car. its less concentrated heat and less of a pull on the rest of the panel.
those old mopars sure are fun! |
