Introduction

Hi, I'm Richard, I live in Sacramento California and I just started welding. I'm impressed with projects I'm seeing on this site and hope to be presenting my own. Right now all I have is an oxy-acetylene torch a couple pair of pliers and a mill bastard file but I'm going to be adding more.
Hopefully I'll be able to find work in the welding field and pursue more exotic metal shaping in my own time (welding is enough of a challenge right now)

Hi Richard welcome to the site. Learning to weld on your own is complicated. If you learn something the wrong way, then you have to spend time and effort to unlearn the wrong way and learn the correct way.

If you don't have a good teacher, there are classes in high school shop, and almost all tech schools offer classes. It is worth your time for sure. For welding questions related to metalshaping, this is the place.........jb

Richard, welcome, hope we can help you learn how to shape metal. There is a lot of good information on the site. Take a look around, it will help you understand what we do and how we do it. Thanks for joining us. You don't need a lot of tools to get started.
