New to this forum
Hi
My name is Russell Holden, I live in Mudgee New South Wales, Australia. Mudgee is a very good quality wine region located about 3 1/2 hours west of Sydney. I joined this forum as I restore old cars and I am currently working on a 1934 Cadillac La Salle Boat tail speedster, I'm about 50% of the way through the coach work then need to skin the new work on the boat tail. I have worked with metal for a long time though not to the standard that I would like to, I'm a retired Chef by trade who has had old cars since I was 14 years old. I look forward to being able to bounce around questions with people who know more than I do, thanks. |
Hi Russell.
Welcome to a friendly bunch of enthusiasts which are so willing with help and advice, loads of good projects on the go, with lots of photos. Why not get your own thread going so we can see what your working on, don't forget the pics. we love them. Cheers |

Hi Russell

R Holden's cars

Hi again
I've attached hopefully some pictures of a couple of our cars. The little green car is a 1902 Thomas Model 17 it is the oldes know brother of the Thomas Flyer that won the 1908 New York to Paris round the world race. Gerat single cylinder 8hp driver. The blue car is a 1937 Chevrolet Tourer (4 door convertable) these cars were Australian bodied on US running gear, we only produced about 200 of these. The bodies were produced by General Motors Holden (a sub of GM USA) The cream car is a 1918 Cadillac 7 pass touring car, again Australian bodied, this car is currently being re-painted and uplostered after a re-restoration. The last photos are of my work to date on the boat tail, as you can see I'll need some serious work to get the panels to go in the directions I need them to without waves or distortion. That's were I'll need help. Attachment 5443 Attachment 5444 Attachment 5445 Attachment 5446 Attachment 5447 Attachment 5448 Attachment 5449 Russell |
Very NICE Russell. You've certainly got some unique history there. Did you do the wood work also?

1934 La Salle boat tail
Hi Kerry
Yes, I'm doing all the wood work myself, made a few blues along the way but nothing I could not fix. I'm just setting up the dicky seat now and then locking the door pillars in place, there is still one more brace to go down both sides of the body before final sand, primer to seal the wood and then I'll start on the meatal skinning. |
