Introduction

Hi, my name is Andy and I am a long suffering wife of one of the metal shapers. My husband has a couple of tools now, some hammers and a beater bag, along with one of two other tools. He wants to buy more, what should I do. At least I know where he is. Help.

From where I'm sitting there's only one thing to do, now your a member click the top left hand tab All MetalShaping, scroll down the various categories until some thing take your fancy, that will open up a list of threads related to that subject.

When you find something you think you would like to try, Have a go.

Who knows your man might buy you a wheel for Christmas.

Andy welcome and enjoy.

Hi Andy, Welcome to the site. It is possible to achieve a lot with not many tools. I think the first tools needed are a sandbag (beater-bag) a hollowing hammer if steel is the metal to be worked on, a variety of hammers- planishing, stretching as well as the hollowing hammer mentioned earlier. A Stump is a great asset but he can probably make this himself. Some dollys will be needed and a flipper (Slapper). Before long he will need to be able to weld parts together- for this I prefer Gas welding for many reasons but people use tig and mig. A lot of simple tools can be made easily at home.

Hope this helps,

David
