Looks like I found the right place
Hello,
I have had an interest in all types of metal working since I was a kid but had very few resources to pursue any of that interest until I got into college. I have a basic knowledge of auto body repair and refinishing from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. I spent a couple years working in a machine shop while I was in college getting a business degree. Now a days I just tool around in my shop with little projects. I would like to get more into the serious metal shaping and plan to build myself an English Wheel, planishing hammer, and some other tools to get going. I'm sure it will be a long slow process but I am glad I found this place to get some inspiration and gain some knowledge. Here are my last couple completed projects: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...y/IMAG0019.jpg http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...y/IMAG0016.jpg I did not build the above chassis from scratch, I did heavily modify it though so it stands out a bit from other S&N fab chassis's. All the rest of the work to it is mine. http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...o/DSC01074.jpg This is my buddies bronco. I did a mild restoration and some upgrades to it. |
Welcome Ben,
You did find the right place. I've learned a lot here on the forums. |
Welcome to Allmetalshaping Ben!:D

Welcome to the site Ben:)

Thanks for the greetings. I have spent several hours looking around already and I think I'm going to like it here!

That Jeep looks like a LOT of fun. I am contemplating a similar build, but to make a sand rail. I really like what you have done!

Thanks Shawn, It is definitely a lot of fun. I was looking at the 55 truck you did. That thing is gorgeous! I definitely hope to reach that level some day.

Thanks Ben, but you should set your aim way higher than me! The best think about that truck is that it shows you what you can do with basic tools. The most advanced too I had access to was a harbor freight English wheel and Shrinker. What you was done 90% with hand tools. Even the embossed scallops on the inner fender was done with 1/8 x 1/2" flat stock and a hammer, then finished off with a hammer and dolly. All flanges are tipped by hand as I have never had the pleasure of using a tipping wheel.
It was a lot of work, but hand tools can get the job done too. I have finally acquired 3 x 5 tubing to make a small English wheel, so I hope to have more fun with you guys on here soon. |

Very nice to see that was all done with hand tools as they will be my starting point until I can get some proper tools built. |
