All MetalShaping - Where's the earplugs and hammers

I am lucky to work for Jaguar-Land Rover at their design HQ, building show cars and other models.

A while back we started to build the Jaguar CX-75. There is no doubt it is a stunning car, and "muggins" was lumbered with polishing the wheels, sorting out a brake system, and also getting the foot pedals and steering wheel to move backwards and forewards as the seats in this beauty are part of the body!

Anyhow.....the interior has shed loads of beaten aluminium, all polished to within an inch of it's life, and when the parts came into our shop from some unknown craftsman, I was blown away, and just had to have a go at making something simpler.....just to prove to me that whoever made this stuff is indeed a GOD.

Onto more mundane stuff now, I am the proud owner of an all alloy car called a Honda Insight (2001 model year). It has an all alloy chassis and body, but some panels and both bumpers are plastic. If I get any good at this metal bashing lark, it is my intention to make thin alloy panels to go over the existing plastic parts so I can then go on to polish the entire car, advertising the fact that is alloy. If I am very lucky, it may happen in my lifetime :)

For those who care, the car manages my 80 mile round trip to work at an average of 106 MPG (imperial gallons, which are 20% bigger than US) and over the last 4 years has saved me more fuel than it cost, so I have a free car that is road tax exempt, is going up in price, does not suffer from rust, and which will one day, may be very shiny.......
