New to all this, but already been reading loads on the metalmeet forum, (can i mention that?) and already ordered some 100mm square box the start making my english wheel /combo machine (dont groan) i dont have space for seperate machines, already purchased large top bearing , stainless lower bearings for grinding with wooden profile edges, and go cart slick and going to get going real soon.

Thanks for the quick response, i am glad that i can now start reading and asking questions...
I hope nobody will laugh at some of my more unusual thoughts....

I dont have a lot of ready cash or space at the mo, so my combo e wheel, will have sort of rotating head assembly with the top bearing wheel and a rubber caster wheel (for tipping) and soft skate board wheel and slick go cart as well.

The large top bearing (well its only 140mm just under 6 inches) is only 26mm wide so to stop me poss tipping the sheet and marking it at the bearing edge i will prob machine 2 wooden side wheels either side (turned on my makeshift bench grinder lathe!)

For the bottom anvils i believe...? that the outer sections of different radius wheels are supporting the forming curve not forming it...? Only the center few mm flat or full radius hardened part actually rolls and squeezes the metal, so i am going to try to grind 2 or 3 different radius on stainless bearings and once again i intend to bolt different turned hard wood or maybe plastic sides to the anvils... pic below dont laugh!:lol:

One main question i have is about small thumbnail dies and the pressure required to "crush" the tuck back down in stages...

My neighbours dont take kindly to noise, so as for air tools / planishers etc either no or when they go out!
So i wonder about other ways to avoid whelding a hammer all the time...
I am hopeing to connect a foot pedal to perhaps a automotive brake master cylinder through brake line to a slave / wheel cylinder bolted over the top thumbnail die to at least form the tuck and then hopefully crush it slowly as well? am i going to have any luck at all?
