New guy from Portland Oregon
 

Hey everyone. I am new to the site and metal working. I am a mechanical engineer by trade and build motorcycles in my spare time. I am interested in learning to work with metal and would like to build my own tank, fenders,headlight buckets,seat pans and cowls, etc. I would also really like to learn to weld as I know I will need to in order to do this. I don't have lots of money so am looking to learn hand tools as a start. I do have access to machine shops and welding equipment at work so will eventually use the machines there. I am looking forward to learning and appreciate the knowledge of all the users willing to share.

Hi Paul, welcome to the group.

Look at the albums and you'll find lots of hand tools and some assembled tools you may get the welders in your work to show you how to assemble when you have the the prepared pieces.

I am also in Portland and work on motorcycles. Only a basement machinist but I do weld. My time since birth has been spent in learning the way "they" used to do it, and the forge in my metal shop does get lit-up every once in a while.
