Welcome to AllMetalShaping Tim.
The first car I ever bought was a Sunbeam Alpine. I was in the Army in 1969 and a guy shipping out sold me his Sunbeam with a bad engine for $50. I found a used engine for $50 and two supposedly 'great' mechanic friends and I changed the motor out in the parking lot of the barracks using our bare hands. (stronger in those days). Got it running but it ran like crap. Finally decided to drive it and see if it smoothed out. Turned out to be missing first gear. I was so mad I sold it to a guy who had just arrived. He walked over and switched the spark plug wires on #2 & 3, and drove off in 2nd gear. I've never let my buddies forget how great they were as mechanics. When I shipped out 2 months later, the car was still running great with no first gear.
Dang I liked that car.
