Hi John,
Welcome to the metal gang.
Sheetmetal parts are graded on finish as "paint grade," "plating grade" and "polished."
I've seen some awesome beautiful delicately-filed paint-grade work (V12 Packard dual cowl) get loaded up with "metalman in a can" and then hog-sanded so that all of the delicate body lines were lost, (and this was a Pebble Beach level shop that took some BoS at Pebble!) The metal man quit the next day. Can't blame him. Took him over a year to bring that car up. I offered to hire him on in my shop, but he had other plans for nursing his remorse.

The painter still works there.
