Intro thread
Hi my name is Jason Adams, im 50 and currently living in Zürich Switzerland.
A little about myself: I have been in the theater industry all my life, and at one point early on I worked for a company that built sets for Broadway. I was assigned to the metal shop- as a helper. I cut all the stock and held it for the lead welder to tack.
Later I worked building massive stages in arenas out of unbelievable amounts of scaffolding and huge chunks of steel.
I also got into long distance cross country rally racing, and modifying old BMW airhead bikes to do these races. I built a series of bikes of increasing complexity and the latest is a fully custom chromoly unit which I fully admit I did not build myself, I just worked with the guy who built the frame, and I did all the assembly.
Anyway it is my hope to one day have the skills to create my own frame and race it.
Beyond that, I have taught myself welding for about 15 years, all mostly just art- I made a deal with several race organizations that I would build the trophies out of scrap metal for the events in exchange for free entry. That was very satisfying for a while, and then I moved to Europe with my family.
Now I am just concentrating on fine art, while I figure out how to better TIG weld.
I prefer working with stainless as it requires so little finishing in order to stay outside. With most of the sculptures I make, I prefer to not change the piece in question, but rather let the original virtually unmodified object take on a new form or life when seen in a different way. It’s hard to explain, easier to see.
The Korean Artist Young Deok is a major inspiration of mine.
I think that’s about it, I’m happy to answer any questions anyone might have, and I am happy to be here and learn from anyone who might help me on my own journey.
Thanks und lieber Grüsse,
Jason
