New guy coming from Greenville, SC
Hello,
I have in the past year or so really got involved in metal shaping and fabrication. I have been interested in motorcycles and cars for as long as I can remember. I grew up to my parents racing SCCA, and have always loved racing. I always had a passion more so for motorcycles than cars though.
I ended up going to school for mechanics and at one point was a certified tech for BMW and Triumph. I ended up leaving the dealership, selling all my bikes, and found a wonderful job in Greenville, SC.
Part of my job is fabrication and welding. I have always loved both of these things, but never really new anyone, or had the means to learn how to. So I ended up spending all my free time after work practicing and learning mig/tig, lathe, milling, and so on.
My boss here races modern and vintage motorcycles. I ended up buying a bike from a friend at the local dealership shortly after moving here. I then proceeded to start building things for it. I even raced it a few times and did fairly well. I have since tore the bike down for a complete rebuild and new fabrication for it. I also got addicted to vintage bikes as well. This is what really has brought me to this site.
I have over the past year started building simple body work for bikes. Mostly very simple belly pans, gas tank, and other things non-related to motorcycles. I have come here to try and learn as much as I can from others. I can potentially see myself doing this as a career and have actually had a job offer from someone I respect very much as a builder/fabricator, but I just can see myself taking it just yet.
I hope that I can learn something from everyone here and look forward to the conversations!
