Thumbs up Intro from Austin, TX!

Hello all,

I am new to metal shaping but not welding and fabrication. I went into the shop the other day and asked the resident coppersmith to show me a few hammers and whatnot to get me into shaping. I really enjoyed it, I had fun and made a really cool.... piece of scrap metal haha. It could be used for a cigar ashtray is the best I could come up with.

I am looking to purchase some mallets and I plan to carve out some stumps I have to start shaping. I am thinking of using Al because it is easily annealed and i is a lightweight material that is great for my intended use, motorcycles.

I hope to learn from this forum as much as I have been able to pick up from my favorite 2stroke motorcycle forum. I am in the process of a total rebuild of a '73 RD350 =)

I am also a student with Austin Community College in the Welding Technology Department. ACC is a great school and the welding instructors are TOP NOTCH! Make a crack about my comm coll, if your head is up your pooper, and we will all have a good laugh at YOUR expense!
