Hello From So Cal

My name is Jim Chapman and I am working on a 49 Anglia Project.

I worked in an industrial setting from age 11 till 23 for a Pipe and Pump Company that did a lot of Fab work. I have some basic forming experience and welding skills. Now that I am 51, I plan to expand those skills while building the Anglia into a Gasser... After that I had a career in Aerospace and the Automotive Industries working on and with CAD. I currently am a Software Analyst for a small Automotive SW Company.

I have some equipment and just picked up a nice hardwood stump.

I am looking forward to getting started and honing my skill set.

No It wasn't, but my dad was the Yard Manager there. He took me to work a couple of week ends and had me help on the second by cleaning the bathrooms and picking up chalks in the yard. (A chalk is a small piece of wood with nails in it that are placed on the ends of the 4 x 4s on a truck load of pipe. They cause a lot of flats in the yard.) By the third weekend I suggested they pay me and they did. I work all my summers and off time from school that I could. By 16 I was driving a 38,000lb Fork Lift and loading and unloading trucks. I also worked in the Fab Shop, Truck Shop and the Tube Line and Shaft Machine Shop. I built some of the first Vertical Turbine Pumps for Magic Mountain's water rides and ended up my career as the Lead Draftsman in the Engineering Dept.

It was an incredible learning experience.

Welcome I am also in So Cal and trying to improve metal working skills, I am currently working on a 51 F1 project. What city do you live in? If you ever need a hand let me know, also if you have any Tig Welding experience I could use some guidance.

Hi Steve, I am in Moreno Valley by Riverside. I currently own 2 tigs, a Forney small tig for steel and a 160 Daytona mig that has Square Wave for both Steel and Aluminum. I have yet to use either one . I have did a little tig work but it was in the mid '80s.

There is a guy offering welding classes in the IE and I am going to check that out.
