Default Newbie here. Aspiring art sculpting professional

Hi everyone,

Aspiring metalsmith here interested in learning the tricks of the trade. Have always been interested in making things from nothing to something.

New Yorker by choice and new to everything sheet metal. If anyone can recommend any resources in NYC, I would greatly appreciate it.

Felix the cat.

Welcome to the forum.

What are you interested in making?

And what have you made? We love photographs here. nd we like it when people brag about their work, and when they ask dumb questions. (No such thing as a dumb question if you are attempting something.)

Hi Felix, and welcome! There's a bunch of us here that have only dabbled in metal shaping. Mostly taking existing parts or metal items and trying to create something else, useful or pretty out of, well, junk.

Watch your area for classes on metal shaping, I'm taking one of the local classes this October in hopes of being able to manipulate sheet metal into either fun or useful objects. Probably my first project will be a gas tank for my BMW motorcycle. Up till now, I've only made motorcycle frames, sidecar frames and really rudimentary headlight buckets and gas tanks. I've done some fender work but not enough to be proud of,...... yet.
