Default Florida close to Cocoa Beach :-)

Hi guys! I've been searching forever to find a good metal spinning resource. I'm soooo glad to find this place. I've been spinning on my old 1910 metal lathe that I've rigged up for dual use. Just started using rollers and I'm having a horrible time finding good roller tools. I've looked at bazzshop and may tool, but can't get them to respond.

I'm working with 18 gauge steel and can form it ok but can't shear it smooth or roll a bead. So these are some things I hope to discover on this forum. Thanks for the opportunity!

Welcome aboard.

I haven't seen much about spinning here, but it doesn't hurt to start a new thread on it.

Hmmm. I guess I'll have to try that. It's hard to find good spinners these days :-/. Thanks

Just curious. Have you seen the spinning work done by Vendome? http://vendomecopper.com/products/specialites/

It's been my personal experience in more than one field of trade that the only way to learn from the experts is to be there. Talk is cheap and if you have to be invited, you've failed the first lesson. whether or not they provide resource to your efforts, they do some great work...

Nice, I have not seen that. Very impressive. I've reached out to a local spinning place and they haven't responded :-(.

Like I said, be there. My Master Sculptor ignored me until I was standing in the studio. Everybody calls. Almost no one shows up without a guaranteed chance, paying job and place to stay. And out of the very few of them, almost no one actually does it. That's what makes them unique.

You might find the need to simply make your own tools and do it all your way. There's lots of folks like that here in the forum. Very cool stuff.

Good luck.

I'm afraid you might be right. I was able to get one successful roller with some flattened pipe and bearings from at auto parts shop. Not much for quality, but it's a start.

"reached out" is how you avoid going there and asking questions and showing them your real interest.

(how would I know ..... )
