Hi Guys,
I just joined up and pretty excited I found this forum! A quick background of myself is that I’ve been into classic cars all my life and have restored many to OE levels with obtaining Gold at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals with my A12 Super Bee about three years ago. And following that, it took Best of Show out of 700 cars at the Mopar Spring Fling right after I won the award at MCACN. I do pretty much all of the restoration myself to include the sheet metal work, paint and body, mechanical, and electrical. I’d like to take my hobby to the next level and that’s metal forming and building my own replica of my dream car: the BMW 507. I’m about ready to assemble the body buck and will be looking for guidance and help from all you guys that would like to help out a fledgling newbie to metal shaping like myself. I’ve got a lot of things planned for the chassis, drivetrain, and unibody structure for it, but the biggest challenge for me by far will be forming the body so it doesn’t turn out like “The Homer” from the Simpsons!! ![]() Nice to meet you all, and I’ll post up more soon with all the details of my body buck.

Hi Dave
Welcome to Allmetalshaping, your membership is approved. Being a pilot and a builder of winning show cars means you are detail oriented individual. That will be very helpful to complete your project. You have proven that you can swim, so may as well jump in the deep end of the pool. The buck is your road map, or flight plan, so make sure it has all the needed information. Some often overlooked items are jambs for doors, hood and trunk. Space for weatherstripping, hinge location and design, as well as structure to support all of the body panels. The skins are the easy part, all of the other things will be far more challenging and time consuming. Post your thoughts, plans and pictures. The members that have built cars from scratch will be able to chime in and offer help where needed. Sounds like a great project. Steve
