Default New Guy From Alaska

Hi all, I stumbled upon this site as a link from another, thought it might be worthwhile to jump in.

As I near (forced) retirement, I've been looking for something to make a few bucks, occupy my time and not be completely useless. Many years ago before I got into the up and down part of aviation, I worked sheetmetal. A lot of things I did were fairings and oddball manufacture of parts and pieces that were no longer available. Did everything by hydraulic forming or by hand with a wheel to finish.

I haven't worked metal for 25 years or so, but I don't think it will take too long to get back in the swing of things. No shortage of bent airplanes here. I'd like to do restoration/reproduction type work.

I still have all my tools from years past and am planning to build my own wheel and power/planishing hammer.

This looks like a great site, and I hope I can make some useful contribution over time.

Now, if I can just find that dang hammer...............

Dennis

Dennis, welcome to the site. Unlike 25 years ago people today are willing to share their knowledge about shaping metal. I am sure that you have a lot of tricks that you learned years ago. As you get back into metal shaping let us know what you are working on with pictures. Thanks for joining.

I'm in Anchorage, I used to live in Kodiak in the early 80's.
