Default Hello from the Heartland...

Good April Fools Day to everyone!

For my birthday (today) I'm joining AllMetalShaping.com! (if you'll have me)

I'm getting ready to begin restoration on a 1969 9 passenger deluxe VW bus and I'd like to be able to make some of the parts that I'll be needing (if not all of them) I have a fair amount of the proper thickness metal in sheet form.

I'm also interested in coachbuilt cars and early European racecars, and although I doubt I'll ever afford one, I would like to put something together like the "Frankfurt Flyer" that I really like.

Here's an interpretation of the original vehicle as built by another talented fella.

I've had a small amount of instruction in metal smithing and can hammerform copper and silver, but steel sheet is a bit different I'm sure. I hope to learn a LOT!

Brian

Welcome aboard.

Sheet steel is different for sure. You just need stronger arms is about the only difference I can think of, but it's easier to weld.

Make sure to post lots of pics when you get started on the van.
