Newbie from Alberta
Interested in all sorts of metal working from casting onto fabrication. Thought this forum may assist me in my expanding education. Will probably be hitting up sheet metal welding, and tool making. I need to get some sheet metal tooling made so I can learn some sheet metal work.

Hello Rod, welcome to the forum. You would be surprised at what can be done with just a few hand tools almost any part can be made. Being able to get a good weld and then smooth it to a metal finish is one of the most important aspects to learn and this takes few tools.

I guess a little bit of info... My metal tooling mostly consists of machining equipment. I'm just getting into some of the welding/fabrication (adding metal rather than removing, if you will...  ). To that end I did some research through the shop I used to work at, and I purchased a Miller 252. I have not yet fired up that puppy. It will probably be used for tractor buckets (ok, so I converted my Kubota to a Bobcat quick attach while at the abovementioned shop) for specific uses. Read - a stump bucket, and a snow bucket. I do have experience on the brake and shear, albeit heavy duty equipment.I'm thinking English wheel and a deep throat shrinker/expander for my first sheet metal making/buying ventures. Starting with the making... Eventually I plan on restoring an old truck or two... but not to perfect...
