Default My BMW 507 project

Hey gang,

With a move complete and a new shop ready to be worked in, I figured I’d start a thread on my Ultimate Dream Car: The BMW 507. I’ve wanted one of these ever since I laid eyes on one when I was, oh, I don’t know…..1?

So not having about 3million laying around, I decided I might as well build one myself! So I’ll go into more detail later, but here’s my full sized body buck. And actually, it’s more like a clay model type of deal. Again, I’ll explain more in a few days when I have time to post up more.

The English wheel, brake, and a few other tools arrive this week and I’ll start in on forming the body.

More info and pics to follow!

Looks like a great start, nice clean shop, nice body buck, and a great desire!

Hi,

Very cool project. Curious were you involved with the A12 program?

Look forward to watching your project. Bill

I agree with you. It is my favorite car. The lines are just beautiful. I have restored six 507s over the years. The first in 1976 for the original owner. I restored a rare Series 1 that was a good solid car and built almost a complete body and several partial bodies. What car did you scan? I believe I still have some hammer forms and a press form for the emblems. They were rather basic forms as the cars were not nearly as valuable then and I was very cost conscious. If you have any questions on the bodywork, I would be happy to help.

Dave, very nice project. Good preparation. What will the chassis be made of?
