Default Major reconstruction of a 1936 Bentley Saloon by Mayfair

This is a new project which I started last week. To most people the body doesn't look that bad until you start taking it apart. These cars are structurally framed from white ash and skinned in aluminum.

You are dead right Jim
You do not know how bad they can be, till you pull them apart
And then the owner say ........Ohhhh it's too much money to fix it.....the car is not worth that much

Default Wood disassembly after skins are removed.

This car is being saved for RROC and CCCA judging so I have to salvage as many parts as possible. The B pillars are about the only wood parts that can be saved.

Jim,
Your metal abilities are only exceeded by your worth ethic. You not only take on these tough jobs, but you finish them.

Keep the photos coming as you progress, please.

Hi Jim
That is a lot of work, Are you doing the timber frame from scratch? or are there frames available? Looking forward to watching this build.

Regards Dennis

You have your work ahead of you Jim.
About 15 years ago I did a Tickford bodied Bentley .

Ninety percent of the ash fell apart when the skins were removed.
Some pics are in an album of mine called " ash bodies"

At the time it was an interesting challenge. Now this older man
lacks the energy and enthusiasm.

I am sure you will do a superb job.

Ron

Wow, that is a lot to replace! The deeper you got the worse it got.

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.
