Those are called flexible shape patterns. I learned of them from this web site. They are basically 4 layers of 2 types of tape. 1st 2 layers are 2" wide blue painters tape laid at 2 different angles, the next 2 layers are fiberglass reinforced packing tape laid at different angle again. These FSP's were put on the clayed up Jag in the background, easily removed and used to verify the wooden ribs of the buck are the same shape. They work very well for revealling high and low areas.

Nick, I too am anxious to start shaping metal! But my friend has 2 old Ferarris to finish before he is ready for me. In the meantime I am back to the chassis, mainly finishing the rollcage, component mounting and some interior substructure. I am slowly putting together the process i used to go from clay to buck for a thread. Should be posting that soon.

So excited! I finally got started shaping metal. Purchased a 26F Imperial wheel and made my first panel. The made the rear tail light section. Started with hammer & bag to get rough shape, then wheeled, shape a little more wheel again and shrunk edges. Using FSP's really shows you where to work, as useful as the buck itself.

Still waiting for my friend. So I'm getting started on my own. Bought a cool Imperial wheeling machine to smooth my hammer and bag shaping. Have shaped 12panels ranging in size from 24x27 to smaller reverse pieces 12x16. I have some new pics own my cellphone. Just need to figure out how to get them uploaded here.
