What is the purpose of this thing?

Is it just to create a chamber of variable pressure or vacuum?

There are easier ways to accomplish that, unless the whole point of the exercise is to MAKE a bellow such as your example.

I see all the machines (on youtube) that can do it but at some stage, someone must have invented these and made a few with more simple tools.

I am interested in all sorts of metalshaping and to me, this is way up there on the scale of interesting.

I can see that the discussion is heading towards the egg. What was created earlier, hens or eggs.
Put the tube into the lathe and shaping. What complexity? The question is what is your goal. Search for a path or product?

I did not understand you previous post about the lathe, tailstock and moving it.
?

Also, the wall thickness of this brass is only 10mils/ 0.25mm. Not easy to hold.

Of course. It must be thin. Because it would not respond well to temperature changes. It is necessary to use thicker material, shaping the wall weakens. But most of all it is necessary to try !!! There is no need for space technology. It is sufficient to understand the basic properties of the material. The lathe, the this most bad, may be your friend for experiments.

I added a picture. You can must produce this tool set 3x. Gradually you will shape. Use a copper pipe from the heater. You can soften it by heating and cooling. I'm interested in your info about your way.
The pipe must of course have a larger diameter in order to be displaced and one step.
