Startup of the Jimmy Matthews 'Tinman' Power Hammer
Uncle Bud and I went over to Jimmy's to help with the initial operation of the complete assembly that Jimmy acquired from Kent White. I was involved in the drawing of the support structure and we made some of the pieces on Jimmy's laser cutter.
The assembly of Kents power hammer was a piece of cake, and our first venture went without a hitch. Jimmy wanted to make some round, domed tops for some outside trash cans, so we cut a circle in plywood and used it as an outer perimeter fixture. Jimmy is shown starting on the project. Of particular interest to me was the elegant woodwork that Jimmy did to store all the accessories. He acquired most useable options and spent some time making wood components for storing them. Uncle Bud took these pictures. wccover1.jpg wccover2.jpg wccover3.jpg wccover4.jpg wccover5.jpg wccover6.jpg

Thanks for posting, Will. It's great to see Jimmy and his shop- I really miss being there and seeing everyone each month. Glad to hear his hammer is making shapes and smiles.
It's worth noting the depth of what Jimmy does with wood, for those who don't know. He starts with the tree that he cuts down and does it all in house. No short cuts or outsourcing. He is a consummate woodworker and craftsman. I would even venture he might even know the exact location where that wood he used for the holders grew as a tree.... Very cool stuff.
