Well done mate. I can see a lot of time and effort in all that.
Nice even HAZ on the door skins too. Glad you sorted a key lock. I would like one on mine to over ride the central locking in case of power failure etc, but can't get one shallow enough to fit between the skin and the glass on the inside.

Ya, after market door poppers made overseas was not too appealing to me. Your factory stuff is much more reliable. Did you install lugs to hook jumper cables on to somewhere on your car? |

Battery is under the bed so can connect directly. More the case of the fobs batteries going down when you are bush or something.

Keep some spares in the glove box, ha..... How easy would it be to get cables up under there? She looks pretty cramped for space to try and hook up a jumper cable. |

Didn't jumper cables go out of style alongside user-operated headlight switches and sealed beams?
Real nice work on all the door detail stuff. It is amazing how much door work rods require just to work like we expect. You will be very glad you did all of it when she makes her debut and the hassles are fast-fading history.

What a nice work on the doors, wow! Your HAZ is so even, I know how much I still need to learn!

Thanks Antione.
I have much to learn also. I proceeded to screw up the door edge recently.....more on that later. Moving to other door now. |

Door latch installation piece welded in. A bunch of extra holes to fill also.
Next order of business was flipping the lock access bubble inside out. Heated red hot and hammered on dolly. Slug tacked to a piece of rod to hold it in position. Dimpled hole for the lock mechanism to screw to. Being welded only the the window track wouldn't be strong enough. |

Hot rod mirrors, I couldn't find much selection. The darn things won't swivel enough unless checking guys standing at a bus stop is your thing. Or watching some old lady walking down the sidewalk perhaps. They need more angle aiming back, so front of mirror base needs to come away from the car.
Metal shaping.........nope.......PITA..... Metal fabricating, more my speed since I do this for a living...... The piece above looks ridiculous so I tacked a base plate on to it, them schmoozed filler around it for a tapered look. The look was OK because it looked like it was going fast while parked in the garage. I could pull a better paper pattern from this buck. So, round 3 started. We say here that metal can be shaped by stretching, shrinking or bending. I offer up a 4th method. Filler rod and sculpting the metal by grinding to shape: Cut out the inside of the plate. It did a good job holding the shape during welding. Ready to weld in. Last edited by 123pugsy; 02-17-2022 at 06:05 PM. |

Got it welded in and cleaned up. The door edge has a small wow in it but to be expected. I drilled a 2" hole in the inner door panel for bolt access. The garnish molding is large enough to cover the hole.
