Jay from Los Angeles
Hi All,
I'm Jay. As made obvious from the subject header I'm from LA. I'm a 3d artist by trade which is really a fancy way of saying I take on a slew of jobs from commercial houses (actually some car stuff too), visual effect houses for film, game work etc. Outside of the professional realm which often cross over with my hobbies I do a lot of woodworking, circuit building, life drawing (I did go to an arts school after all). Actually my launch of curiosity into metal working was started by David Gingery (I have the fancy hardcover book containing his make your own metal shop opus). It was his descriptions of cheap affordable hand metal working that launched me into wanting to be able to achieve one of my dream hobbies (building a locost). However my issue with a locost (sorry seven lovers) is that the design is so common. My dream car project is to follow the ideology of the locost to build a custom car with a custom body that isn't just a replica (again, no offense replica builders, just my personal preference.) For a while I actually considered doing a full wood body like that of the Morgans and because I do have experience in a lot of custom wood projects (nothing on the scale of a car though,) however I ultimately decided on aluminum as my working material since it would allow me to learn another material (let alone the upkeep of wood, especially a highspeed piece of outdoor furniture on wheels.) Plus there are way more resources for sheet metal working. In my searches I came across the David Gardiner DVD tutorial. I've watched through that thing - thrown it on an ipad and listed to it on my stereo. Had it running in the background at work. Each time learning a new thing or route to accomplishing an effect. enough yapping your ears off, really really long story short, I came by this forum by way of searching/stalking David Gardiner for drops of gold and ran into all of your metal working tutorials/photos/hammer choice posts and can't wait to view them once I'm accepted as a member (Assuming that I'm not some spectacular built spam bot.) Thanks for your time!

Hi Jay, Welcome to AllMetalShaping.
You won't have any 'issues' with purists here. It's all about the metal. I took a similar route with a similar goal but somehow ended up somewhere else. http://allmetalshaping.com/showthrea...highlight=Deco It is a long read.
