That's a good idea Ken. You could also possibly wind it with mig wire and solder the ends. I have seen something like that before, but I recall where.

What RPM is your grinder? Some grinders run faster than others. Not all brands run at the same RPM. Just a thought

Wood shrinking disc
Last twenty years I used a clutch disc for friction shrinking. It is 9'' disc on 6000 rpm machine. Seven years ago I came up with an idea of a smaller diameter wood disc. The big one use on large open areas. The small one was used in difficult spots and corners. Now I made a new wooden disc, 4.5'', from maple and glued it with JB glue to a steel plate. The friction shrinking is used mainly for restoration the old steel, and very rarely on aluminium. The small machine runs on 9000 rpm.IMG_20190612_141543814 (1).jpg

Clutch disk caution!
Many (older) clutch disks are made with asbestos. Not good at all. I don't know of any dust mask that will remove or filter it out. Fred26t

P100 masks will capture airborne particulate larger than 0.3 microns and, unlike an N100 mask, still function in the presence of oil. P100 are HEPA rated and remove at least 99.97% of airborne particulate. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topi...t/default.html To better guarantee the cleanest air, an external source forced air respirator is the safest source of breathable air in contaminated environment. Even the best forced air respirator will be normally sourcing air through a HEPA rated intake filtering system and P100 is the highest rating offered for such filters.... A P100 half-face unit with replaceable filter cartridges isn't prohibitively expensive or significantly cumbersome. whatever the situation, particulate masks do not protect against vapor.

Hi Bill.
Sorry as a noob here I’m not familiar with this forum format so I kind shot a blank and put UHMW in the title field so I don’t think it was clear what I was asking. So has anybody tried UHMW instead of wood on a shrinker pad? I have some hard maple from a futon frame. But I also have a lot of 1” thick sheet UHMW. Tony
