Here is a little update on the Rambler involving a solution I came up with for creating a hidden access to the future remote brake reservoir. The flap is actuated by a small electric linear actuator. It can be left closed, open slightly, or opened the full 90 deg. to gain access to the reservoir. I have a video of it…I’ll see if I can post that later.

Now that I’m pretty much back onto the Rambler…..I’ve started working on the trunk. First up was to fabricate a pair of hinges as well as the mounting structure under the rear package tray area. These tie into the package tray as well as the wheel tubs and gives a very sturdy structure for the hinges / decklid.
I’ve also included some pictures of the ‘62 IH Scout that had been taking me away from more progress on the Rambler. We completely rebuilt it (it was rusted away bad!) Swapped in a SBC 350, etc, etc….

Thanks for the positive comments, really appreciate that!
Here I’ve begun the modifications for the original inner structure of the decklid. I removed the skin, cleaned up the structure, then started hacking it apart! I needed to add 7” in length and some in width at the front. I fabricated some matching channels of the appropriate shapes for each section of inner structure, clamped it all together, adjusting as necessary, and welded it all up when I was happy with the overall fit.

That is really nice work, Dane.
Patient attention to the details.

Thank you very much!
I finished with the trunk hinges, and added the mounting / bolt pad. With that done, I needed to create a new area in the inner structure for a flat mounting structure. I recessed this a bit to help aid in concealing it with upholstery later. Fabricated a rear striker support brace (this also stiffens the rear body panel, floor and trunk jamb nicely). Didn’t take pictures of the latch / mounting I did on the decklid structure. Finally I was able to shape up the missing forward section for the exterior skin. First tacked into place, then fully welded across, followed up by some planish IH and the initial metalwork. I still have some items to deal with on the inner structure (gas strut mounting mainly) before I can clean the inner structure and exterior skin up and attach them together permanently. Last couple pictures are of an aluminum trunk handle / emblem (that mimics the original Rambler one, but without the key lock) that the customer had machined up elsewhere. Threw in one pic of a stock Rambler that I ran across in Iowa for a reference of what I had begun with roughly.
