Nope. It shatters due to the internal stress from the heat treating. Not sand blasting, water jets, glass cutter, sonics, lasers nor any of the other myths out there. If someone tells you tempered glass can be cut, your immediate response should be "Show me."....End of discussion. (One of the very few things I'll tell you that actually IS written in stone.)

Also, you can sand and polish an edge on tempered glass. However, you've just created a time bomb that can shatter any time without reason, without warning.

Default Caddy side glass

You can cut your glass and then get it tempered. You just need to ask your local glass shop where he gets his tempered glass. The tempering shops don’t care whose glass they temper

If I were going to get custom glass made, it wouldn't be for the tempering, it would be for the curve. Your corner glass store is not going to be helpful with that.

I use Bent Glass Design Inc. in Hatboro PA. They have made flat and curved glass in laminated and tempered for me. Color matched tints in some rare cars. If you do not have an original that they can scan, provide an aluminum shaped part. Very talented, good prices and easy to deal with. They have even replicated correct logos on some for me. Very high quality and attention to detail.

Thanks Rick. I'll check with them. I was going to use flat glass, but I would have to make new window regulator tracks. I would have to make straight tracks if I were to use flat glass since the CTS tracks have a curve in them to accomodate the CTS glass. Curved glass would be an added expense but it would save the headache of modifying the regulators.

I finished making all the pieces for the perimeter of the roof frame. I can't start on the bows until the perimeter is welded. It's not rigid and doesn't stay in place which makes it difficult to continue. I took the pieces to a friend to TIG them up so I won't have it back for a few days.

While I'm waiting for the roof, I started getting a few smaller projects done. One of which is getting the tail lights fitted and polished. Some minor filing and sanding to shape the housing, then a lot of sanding on the surfaces that show and I did some polishing. There are some minor pits at the upper part of the castings so I'll probably resand and polish after I finish stuffing the guts in them. I have ten pounds of junk to stuff into five pound package. Should be interesting.
