Default 1" IHCP buy

I am looking to replace my beadroller shafts with IHCP, Induction Hardened Chrome Plated shafting and will only need less than 8' of it. I will have to buy a length, 20 or 24' (I forget) and it runs a little ober 10 bucks a foot.

Anybody interested in buying the rest of the stock?

I will be documenting its use and the whys in a seperate thread when I get around to redesigning my bead roller.

Thanks
Marty

Is it keyed Marty? If not, do you know the Rockwell on it? I need keyed for the deep throat build I've got in my head.

Marty,
You have any idea on how I could tell the harness of the shafts? My local yard always has, most of the time, long pieces of shafting that come from scrap conveyor / food processing lines.

The outside .040 is VERY hard, it can be machined and keyed, just takes time and patience. I will have the specs when I order it.

I will have to key it myself where I need it, on the drive side, the driven side wont be keyed.

The center is nice and soft, turnable and machinable once you get past the induction hardend skin.

You can run a file across a piece of shaft and have an idea, but it is innacuratew at best unless youy are doing it all the time.

Default Thompson shafting

Marty,
We use thompson shafting at work a lot and it is what you describe about 60 rockwell or so on the outside and a softer but tough center. It is available in shorter lengths you could buy 3 foot pieces cheaper maybe. McMaster-Carr should have it. It is worth a look.

Default stress proff

Marty before you buy look into Stress Proof shafting material. That is the industry standard for most machines. Should be cheaper and more readily availiable. Machines like tool steel but better. easy to cut keys in. etc. usually stocked in both inch and metric sizes. Michael
