Rookie metal shaper in northwest ohio
Hello. I have come to this forum through recommendation from people on hot-rodders.com. My car restoration project got me started on metal shaping. I have done a small few pieces here and there so far. None of these pieces were exterior panels or anything that could be seen. Their quality was not too important.
Making intricate shapes fascinates me. I love watching YouTube videos, particularly the lazze videos, about metal shaping. Making intricate shapes that are important and are visible on a car would be great. I have some applications I'd love to get into. I have several metal shaping tools to get me started. All of them are from Harbor Freight. I have an English wheel, a bead roller, and the shrinker stretcher kit. I also have a variety of cutting tools of course. I have all hands of the metal snips. They're Midwest brand. I have a throatless shears in the oscillating head shears. I forget what that one's called but it looks like a giant scissors and pretty much only does straight cuts. I think you know what I'm talking about. I also picked up a tubing bender and a 1 3/4" round tubing die. This will be used for my roll cage in my car. I also am set up for MIG and TIG wedding with a Lincoln and Miller welder respecitively. Tube bending may be getting out of the scope of this forum, but I thought I'd mention it. Once my profile has been reviewed and approved I will post some questions I have on how to make particular intricate (well what I consider intricate) shaped pieces that will be used on my car (if I am successful). I look forward to your guidance and help to get me to see and learn how metal can be contoured to the weird, complex, multi angular, multi radius shapes that I seek. I hope to learn a lot. these forums have taught me a lot on many different subjects. it's so easy to learn now due to the internet. Thanks.
