Do you have a shrinking disc?
If not a sanding disc turned upside down will also work at a pinch.
Try to get to golden brown and then let cool without any water or air so it remains workable afterwards.

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Johnny just to clarify, when shrinking with heat, applying cold water is just to keep the rest of the panel cool (a spray bottle will do). The shrinking occurs as the metal tries to expand in the heated area, but is resisted by the cooler surrounding metal. when using a shrinking disc as long as the water turns to steam it will have been hot enough to shrink the area.

Finally finished this panel so thought I'd finish this thread.
I ended up starting again taking a different approach and trying to block this panel out like Peter blocked the wheel arch on the monaro panel , by blocking the lines from behind on sandbag .then tidied up my lines with hammer and purpose made wooden dolly.
Then before I cut my panel I used 2 paper strip's to make sure I had solid reference points to line up new panel .
Practiced my oxy welding for a few weeks and then welded it on.
Turned out okay and learned a lot about metalshaping during the process.onto the next one!

Johnny,
You have some pictures and comments here that you don't have on the other site.
Glad I looked here. Your additional pictures and comments here show the huge advancement in your learning curve. If you go back through the thread from the beginning you can see that as your approach to the panel got simpler and simpler your progress was greater and greater.
What a fantastic job.

If you go back to post #18 and study the last picture....your talking about to much shape in the panel.....
If you were to stretch the weld edge on the wheel and the door edge (before turning it) you could then do "shape out" and drag that excess shape out to the edges... Then turn the door edge.
If you still have that panel as a practice piece you could open that door edge and see if you can get your wheel in there and try some shape out

Anyway great job

Thankyou all for the comments and encouragement.
Dave I went back through the posts you are right, simple approach worked well for the panel and as you've said before it's great what can be done with simple tools, also on the other forum you told me" the last 10 percent of a panel is the hardest"
This was good advice it made me realise that many of the attempts I scrapped earlier weren't beyond repair .they were near the last 10 percent of being formed where you have to really tune up the smaller details. Which seemed impossible to me at the time.
I do still have the panel from post 18,when I get a chance I'll try the shape out approach you described.

Fantastic work Johnny and a fine example of what perseverance can achieve,

Cheers Charlie
