Congratulation!!!!!! You can be very proud, all the work has payed off.

Many car guys have got a dream of building a project like yours, many get started, but most never get finished. As you well know it takes a lot more time and money than the initial estimation.

Now go and have some fun with it, but be ready for all the questions from people every where you stop.

Thanks for the inspiration , and sharing the good and bad steps along the way.

Steve

Well done Ray getting it this far.
You will have to explain a lot that it is not a fibreglass car still in gel coat, but real steel!

Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

I have been sorting out the car and have 400 miles on it now. A few thoughts about the journey of this project. I'm not much of a attention hoar but it is part of having a car like this. Most my satisfaction is at the end of the day just me in my shop and the task at hand.
I get the usual "what is it?" and is it a kit? One thing that is bugging me is that when people find out it aluminum they have the urge to "knock" on it to confirm. It happens allot and pissis me off. It's in primer now but when it's painted..................??? I don't want to put a sign on it.
Past all the BS and it's me and the car out stretching it's legs on a back country road it is very rewarding. What brings it together is not just that it's my own design and metal fab but the chassie and engine choice to bring the body alive.
With the 415hp engine/4spd/big brakes/engine set back/independent rear and at 2600lbs it's a unique drive to say the least. I have built may a hot rod and this one does most things very well.
Once you get through 1st gear and stab it the car squats hard, the rear tires are at the edge breaking loose and the front gets light. The engine has a airplane type scream to it as you move through the gears. It stops hard and is flat in the corners. It has some cowl shake but it's part of it's feel. It's all under control but you have to let out at some point. I then realized the other night I must have got this one right.
The moral of the story is make it do what it looks like....................Ray

I know what you mean. People can be ignorant sometimes. Why don't you paint it Porsche Silver. It's almost aluminum like.

Kind regards,

Frank

Unfortunately you have to take all the good and bad comments like a grain of salt, its their opinion on wether they like what you have built or not.
I know exactly what you are referring to, with your build, when you receive good comments its a great feeling of pride and accomplishment, but when you receive bad, don't take it to heart, it's what you have created to satisfy yourself, and gives you the pleasure of cruising around in it.

These people who knock what others created have no idea what it takes to achieve these things, the amount of work that is involved and the passion.
It's like houses, some like certain designs and styles whilst and others don't, if it's not my cup of tea , I keep it to myself, that means if you don't like it Jack Shite, cause I built it for myself.

I have gone through the same deal with my car, when I built it, I refuse to be a member of the car club due to it, as the purists think it's a shame that I destroyed such a classic car. Yet the thing was well beyond destroyed when I got it.

Default 4 to 5spd

Been out there running the crap out of it and having fun. No body cracks yet...................
I'm always searching for another gear so I picked up a 5spd. C3 corvettes are a pain for tranny R&R so I decided to do the swap from the top. Cut the old glass tunnel out which was made to fit dash/console/ auto/stick etc........... Lots of curves and was big and boxy. Tightened it up a bit. removable, Lots of room to work on the trans now.
Lot of work just to throw carpet on, Ray
