Hi Kent,

Yes, I contacted a place that can plate the plastic. After all, most of the new chrome on cars now a days is plated plastic so it’s pretty common practice. I will probably go that route. As far as mounting, I was going to replicate the original way the factory parts were done with the exception of the side grilles. Epoxied studs will be used on the plastic parts before plating and that will hold the front and side grilles in place like originals. I did a flange on the front grilles as the factory did, and I’ll post up a picture of that later.

I figured I’d epoxy the car in White since I’ll be painting it that color with a blue interior and top. It matches my plane!

Been working on the rear quarters. This is a blast!! After the visit to see one being restored, I was able to get measurements for the tail light placement and I'm pretty pleased. Couple errors on my buck I was able to fix. Like the front, more panels than I'd like, but I'm pleased with the results so far.

Been spending a lot of time fixing a few things on the front that I didn't like. I had to push back and change the angle of the one turn signal since it was off. I'm now about 1/8" between the two in height, so very symmetrical. I welded the front fenders to the fascia as well then did some quick bodywork to smooth the seam. Nowhere near final, but it gets me an idea of the final product and man I'm excited!!

The rear section came out pretty good, but now I'm at a standstill until I make the frame and inner structure. With the front more or less one piece, I'll be able to finish the flanges and edges of the fenders.

The front and side grilles will be sent out for chrome plating tomorrow. I welded a wire with studs attached to it for mounting. That got epoxied in the valley so it'll stay in place with no issues of it coming loose once mounted.

Up next I'll start on the frame, but first I need to fix a T-Bucket steering issue for my father-in-law so he can drive his new toy. I'm very happy with it so far!

Hate to say it, but your left headlight appears to be a lot higher than the right. Did you fit profile gauges to the tops of the fenders?

Thanks Fargoman! I appreciate the compliment!

Hmmm, it does look like they are different but it's not, I can assure you. Bottom of the headlights and top are identical in distance to a level base on the floor.

I used a profile gauge made off my buck, but with my skills still being improved, I'll probably have to fix some of the mistakes with filler where needed. Is it 100% metal formed and ideal, not really. But I'm another step closer to my goal and I don't think it looks half bad.

When I start with the aluminum body on the next go around I'm sure it'll form up a lot easier.

Cheers

Sorry, my intent is not to criticize but to help you get thru a tough project.

Don't be sorry. Criticism is what helps refine this project. It doesn't discourage me, rather, encourages me!

I'll go back and check things over again, and yes, better to fix it now! I already had to move a turn signal to make it more correct

Cheers

Sorry for the delay in posting, guys. I've been swamped at work and with my plane in Annual, funds are a little limited. Also, been working on a 62 Corvette for a lady and now I have a friend's 280SL in for work as well. Those two help pay for the Annual inspection so they take priority.

FedEx smashed the grilles I sent to get chrome plated, so I glued them back and threw them in the buck in disgust. Figured just for fun I put the turn signals and headlight rings on too. Inspirational!!

Hey guys,

Just wanted to drop in and update my progress. Been working steady on my 507 project and I'm getting really excited about seeing this car come together. I'll be starting into mounting the rear skins next, then floors, then... Well.... Everything else!!

I'm very proud of this so far. It's starting to look like a car!

Enjoy the pics!
