Next, are the rocker panels. I laid out, cut and started bending the right side outer rocker and ran out of time so I'll try to finish the bends tomorrow.
The extra length on the front will continue all the way forward to the back of the front wheel opening. Then I'll cut the lower portion of the fenders off and they will bolt to the top of the extended rocker. This will make aligning the fenders a lot easier and a better fit. There are a few new cars that use this method and it is a very clean look. One that comes to mind is the BMW 3 series. I will be extending the front of the doors a few inches to effectively reduce the length of the fenders and try to balance out the long front end look.

I finished the bends on both rockers but there's still work to do.
I need to wheel the outer face to put a gentle curve in to match the shape of the original, then I need to make the curved area where the rear fender radius comes down. There is some rust in that area so it looks like I'll be doing some patch work. It's a common rustout area on these cars but it's not too bad. I've seen much worse.

These are the inner flange pieces. I don't think I could have made the inner and outer in one piece so I did them in two pieces.

Hey, Welcome to the forum, Greg. I'm doing this a little bit out of order since my space is limited for now. I'm having additional garage space built and once that's done I can get the donor car in here and start on the framework. In the meantime I'll get some of the body done. Look around the forum. There are a lot of very talented metal shapers here. Haven't seen any "Rick_L's" here yet. They must have a Blowhard filter.

It's just another female bead die. I don't have many dies yet. I need to spin a few sets including a set of tipping dies. For now I'm just using what will get the job done. Nothing that I'm doing at this point really needs a nice finish.

I think this mod will be very important, glad to see you mention it!! Will help in the balance front to back and staying true to the rendering! Looking forward to your next update!!

I welded up the repair panel for the left side. I don't want to weld it to the car yet, though. I need to finish the rocker and install that first. I had to make the repair panel before I removed the old rocker so I could copy the shape of the fender opening. Now that that's done the old rocker can go.
