Default Am I headed in the right direction?

I've promised myself that I'd get some more work done on the Sprite, and while I'm pleased to have the rear deck improved from it's original stoved in condition, I'm stuck with one remaining problem.
Where the left edge meets the quarter panel, there is a hump, and ahead of it is a kink. If I remove the panel from the car, and curl the back edge under, the kink disappears. If I'm correct, this means the left edge needs shrinking. This is complicated, I think, by the flange along the left edge. Should I cut the flange off and shrink, or is there an alternative fix?
Thanks for any advice.

It was the flange that was causing me the trouble. I heated the flange and stretched.
For the finishing touches, I cut mating pieces to the correct profile and squeezed them together.

Is there no deck lid on this car? It appears that the whole rear deck is one piece spot welded in side to side and front to back? If that's the case, knock those flanges off and butt weld the panels together.

That would be an option, but there's a T shaped piece of trim sandwiched between them.
