This Ford Mainline Ute is another ongoing build, it come in as a rectification from another high profile workshop, with numerous examples of poor build quality that I have been correcting.
This task is to replace the hard-lid skin. The previous attempt was pop riveted on to a tube frame, and it had an overlap join half way back. ops:
The skin had no shape wheeled in and had numerous buckles and oil can areas.

I am using .062" Aluminum, grade 5005, H34(half hard), unfortunately the sheets that are available in my area are only available as 8'X4', which doesn't span the area I need to cover.
I have begun shaping the first sheet and trial fitting it to the frame. there were several ways this could have been joined, I chose to have the join down one side as it would be easier to reach to weld and work the weld area.
After the car returns from the trim shop, I will trial fit the lid to determine the width for the other sheet and the 3/4" turn down around the edge

Well, I was able to complete the hard lid today. After the wheeling operation, a little work with the slapper was needed on the weld area to lift some low spots.
The aluminum skin was bonded to the steel frame with Fusor 108 metal to metal adhesive.

That really came out great Stuart! Low crown panels like this give me more difficult than high crowns.
