You are right Bob I am so happy I found them. I was gutted about the finished shots of the SS100 as well. I was considering getting the data recovered from the card.

David

Here are a few more photos of the process of making the bucks, pretty self explanatory I think...

OK enough woodwork I think. Not that interesting to metalshapers perhaps.

The next thing I did was to make a pair of wings, I wanted to check that wings made on the bucks were right before I made the other side bucks.

I appreciate you posting all the preshapping stuff. For a noob who doesn't know all the tricks it helps to see how you got from A to B.

David: I too, am interested in anything that you display prior to the actual metal shaping pictures. It gives me an insight to your thinking and preparation and often helps understand the metal shaping posts better as well.

This last post was particularly helpful to me as I would have not thought of a floor mounted 'partial' buck to match fender/wing contours like you show. It will be helpful to me, and time saving in repairing some of the Model A Ford 'stuff' that I work on.

Thanks for ALL the pics you post.

Hi Will, the wooden part that you are talking about in the photo is part of the full buck I showed earlier. Its a bit out of sequence because I could not find some of my photos. I do however do exactly what you are saying, make partial bucks with just one or two stations. These can easily be reversed to give you a profile for a symmetrical part the other side. If i was only going to make this one set of wings that is how I would have done it, I would simply use the existing wing for the rest of the info. I probably have some photos somewhere. I was thinking of doing a thread on bucks at some point I will dig out as many photos as I can find of the dozens of bucks I have made over the years and see if I have anything worth posting.

Good morning David

I would really like to see anything that you have in the way of buck photos. I have enjoyed making some bucks, and have learned something each time I have made one. Like allowing for clamps to be used and to be able to look thru them to check if the panel fits correctly.

Steve Hamilton from this site is quite knowledgeable about bucks as well and may have something to add to your posts.

The work you've done to build th bucks is very interesting. Thr idea of extending them to the floor is a good idea. I imagine it makes them a lot easier to work with.

The shape of the SS100 fenders is unique. I have a question having never seen a complete car. Are the outer edges of the fenders (wings) all on a common vertical plane? In other words, if you pushed the car against a vertical wall would all the fender edges contact the same plane? Most automobiles turn in a bit at the ends; the SS100 looks different.

Hi Richard, yes the wings are flat on the side. I don't know how else I could have made the bucks. Doing it this way makes making them simple. I can easily reverse the bucks for the other side.

I have a photo of the original bucks and they were done in the same way.

There is more shape at the apex toward the outer part of these wings so more wheeling is done there to get the shape, the bottom of the wing is flat where it meets the running board of the front wing so it has to be blended out towards this area. Because of the length of the panel I form the goose-neck on the panel before I wheel it.

I have done many sets of these wings but I never had my own bucks before.

Blending the bottom of the front half of the wing. I use low pressure. Lots of SS100 wings look like they have a hollow in this area even after they are painted because this has not been done properly.

Each part was checked on the buck, once I was happy with the shape I threw the flanges, these were then shrunk to shape.

The parts were welded together. I checked the fit of the parts on the car as I went because this was the first set if wings made on the bucks.

I am making these wings from the same number of peices as the originals because I am restoring the car.
