Next I started fitting up the upper rail and marked it to drill the alignment pin holes and latch holes. I'll drill and tap the pin holes and use cut down stainless bolts for the pins. I'll thread them in till I'm completely done with the panel then weld them.

the latches will be cable operated and I tried using a 90 degree tube to direct the cable toward the rear where the release lever will be. It worked, but there was too much drag with the tight bend so I took it out and used a straight fitting that worked much smoother. Sometimes planning only goes so far. Real world testing is the final word.

Both front and rear latches will be operated by one release lever. This is the complete system for the left side. Two motorcycle throttle cables and a bicycle dual brake lever. Simple and effective. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Great work continues Jack. What is the source for that latch and handle? I might have a similar need.

The latches were from a Ford Explorer tailgate. I covered the modifications somewhere in this thread. Very strong and positive double claw locking. The release lever was bought on eBay. BMX Dual cable brake lever .

I've been getting the front end sorted out with my friend Ray at Picasso Concepts and we came up with the final design. I thought y'all might like to see them.
The guy is truly amazing, it's like he can see my vision. Spooky!
Shaved pancaked hood, body side molding starts at the grille and wraps around the fender, vertical grill bars removed, 56 Cadillac dagmars and center bar, and 58 Chevy truck parking lamps (which are shown in the top up rendering but not changed yet in the top down rendering).
