Invention is a combination of brains and materials.
The more brains you use, the less materials you need.

Moved to the front sheet metal mock up. The plan is to have the bonnet side panel and guard in one piece. I've taken one vertical bar out of the grille on the LHS to narrow it up and a couple of horizontal bars off the top.

Thanks Steve.... After the rear of the cab's finished, I need to sort the chassis and suspension. The front sheet metal may not fit otherwise

Nice work . at what stage would you take this to the cert guy ,does he need to look at these repairs . im currently working on a bad jailbar cab and doing similar work . just curious as i build a few rod bodies but have yet to sort a cert guy . very difficult to do on the westcoast of the south island .we seem to build them here then take a chance and hopefully whoever we find will be kind to us.

Hi Graeme. Thanks. I took the cab to the certifier before I closed it in. He was happy with it on that trip. With the chassis, he wants to see it mostly finished, but unpainted. taking a chance is a bit risky. Take heaps of photos of your work, so you can prove what you've done without having to deconstruct any thing for the certifier. Sometimes you need a repair certificate for your patches, but as long as your repairs are being done in a tradesman-like manner, you'll be sweet. The low volume manual is online now and free. Any other queries... just ask

much appreciated chris. looking forward to more of your build ,im very interested when your doing floor and chassis mounts . i see the seatbelt brace in the cab behind door post and that gave me reason to rethink my belt mounts . keep up the great work .

Needed to install a cage over the striker plate so I could epoxy prime the interior panels. The epoxy takes around 8 days to cure, so I'll be starting on the chassis and suspension install while I'm waiting. The plan is to glue the rear cab panel on, through the center area, to avoid heat distortion. The rest of the panel will be welded.

I acquired these half ton rails from a friend. They were living in his paddock. I got them home and water blasted them. After my mock up with the cab, deck and intended front sheet metal, I stripped the rails out. The cross members are going to be changed to suit the drive train, bar the rear one, which will be retained. Off to the sand blaster they went, but that wasn't totally successful. After a rant to myself, it was decided the rails would go into citric acid once I had finished modifying them. So while the rails were at the sand blaster, I ordered 4 x 3 meter lengths of 4mm channel. These were custom made by a press brake firm. Also set my front suspension up in an old bath tub. Citric acid again. Great stuff, but enamel baths don't like citric acid. It melts off
