Thanks guys, it's a slow process building a vehicle from scratch almost, but an enjoyable one always.

Here is another update for the rear storage area.

Here both basic compartment halves are bolted into position.

Making a template for the skin. The two square openings will be for small storage (will have doors later) the oval hole is actually necessary on the driver half to have access with my hand to bolt the two compartments together at the middle support. I plan to shape a mesh cover that snaps into place and is removable if needed (think speaker type grille almost) this will also be a nice area for air to enter or exit so it's not such a sealed compartment with the mechanical components inside.

Size: 63.9 KB

This view shows how the compartment flowed with the angle of the seat back

Name: 4.jpg
Views: 920
Size: 64.9 KB

Inside the box I built a middle shelf and also added a little cross brace at the top bolt locations, so it always lined up and was less fiddly to get the bolts installed.

Size: 57.8 KB

With the skin template overlayed, you can see the shelf creates the two storage sections per side (and also stiffened the boxes up nicely)

Size: 60.3 KB

I now could mount the air tank permantly in place. Here is an outer support bracket I fabricated. It's two pieces. The lower section welds to the floor, and the top portion can unbolt (so it's not a large protrusion sticking up when I'm crawling around in the car finishing the build, painting, etc.)

Name: 7.jpg
Views: 923
Size: 66.8 KB

Here the one side bracket is located into place. The actual tank bracket attaches to the top of my bracket.

Name: 8.jpg
Views: 930
Size: 70.7 KB

All the brackets made for the tank install.

Name: 9.jpg

Size: 72.6 KB

With the compartments removed, you can see the brackets easier. There is a third one in the middle on top of the driveshaft tunnel as well.

Size: 62.6 KB

With the tank and removable sections of the brackets removed...

With the brackets installed, The black tank brackets actually bolt on like this, and the tank "cams" into position and just has a small set screw on each plastic bracket to keep it from rotating back out of the cam.

Made a basic removable tray for the elecrical panel. Punched large holes for the wires to pass through later

Size: 74.7 KB

Working on the skin blank. Cut out some hammerforms to bend over the lip of the openings.

Lip hammerformed over

First skin being test fit in the vehicle

Name: 17.jpg
Views: 920
Size: 50.9 KB

Close up of the openings. I did a softer large radius on the oval since it won't have a door front. Instead will have the mesh or screen that I mentioned earlier (probably have a slight dome shape to it....not just flat)

Size: 73.4 KB

Both compartments with their skins fit.

Name: 19.jpg

Next update....fabricating the large center compartment access door. Note cardboard doos on small side openings (in time they will all have basic doors and probably magnetic latches installed)

Another update for the rear storage area. This one focusing on the main access door.

Name: 1.jpg
Views: 806
Size: 70.4 KB

Started with a basic sheet rough shaped to the contour of the rear storage compartments.

Name: 2.jpg
Views: 778
Size: 66.3 KB

Bent up a 90 and shrunk / stretched it to fit around the perimeter of the door skin. Very basic since it's just the inside of a storage compartment. I did the outer edges this way, so they can easily be trimmed to create correct gap for when the upholsterer does his work.

Name: 4.jpg
Views: 782
Size: 50.6 KB

Starting with some bar stock........

Name: 5.jpg
Views: 815
Size: 75.6 KB

Drew up a simple hinge design (access door on left, package tray on right)

Name: 6.jpg
Views: 781
Size: 58.2 KB

Drilled and bushed the barstock for the hinge pivots. Cut and welded out the hinge shape I decided upon.

Name: 7.jpg
Views: 753
Size: 70.6 KB

Fabricated a hinge mounting panel for the door. (This is the backside with a doubler plate and mounting nuts)

Name: 8.jpg
Views: 785
Size: 67.7 KB

Hinge mounting panel / brace located into the door.

Name: 9.jpg
Views: 789
Size: 64.4 KB

Hinges mounted to the door. Here you can see outer portions of the hinge pivots (two outers) The pivot pin slips in nice and is held in by a hairpin cotter pin.

Name: 10.jpg
Views: 794
Size: 69.8 KB

The inner structure ready to plug weld to the outer skin.

Name: 11.jpg
Views: 779
Size: 71.5 KB

Inner structure plug welded to outer skin. I'm fine doing this to the skin, since the door will be upholstered on the outside.

Name: 12.jpg
Views: 783
Size: 72.3 KB

Door fit into the opening to test the hinges.

Name: 13.jpg
Views: 760
Size: 69.8 KB

Made some mounting brackets and installed some gas struts.

Name: 14.jpg
Views: 788
Size: 71.1 KB

Door shut and added a general idea how the center console will blend into the access door. The upholstery shop will eventually contour and "do his stuff" with the storage compartments.....it won't just be flat wrapped with leather for example.

Name: 15.jpg
Views: 771
Size: 62.4 KB

A close up of the integrated door pull for the access door. (This is just a mock up metal mldg. for now)

Name: 16.jpg
Views: 812
Size: 66.0 KB

Will be a nice hidden finger pull.

Name: 17.jpg
Views: 772
Size: 72.1 KB

With the access door open and the console there, there is still clearance room for the headliner, etc.

Name: 18.jpg
Views: 807
Size: 73.8 KB

View from the front with the door and console set in.

Name: 19.jpg
Views: 760
Size: 65.9 KB

The door does operate / open with the seats installed as well. They just have to move forward a bit when you need to open it.
