63 gmc project

My name is Mike and I've been logging on and seeing lots of cool stuff here. I thought it was about time I contributed by sharing some of the projects I work on every day. I can't seem to figure out how to get pics into the post yet but I'll work on it and hopefully get something up soon.

Here's a pic of my shop truck project. I'm building rear fenders using the fronts as a buck and built running boards with raised pattern as original but lengthened them to meet the new rear fenders.

Truck looks good, how did you press the pattern in running boards?
Cheers

I kinda think it's appeal is that it really is quite ugly.
Made the pattern with a converted arbor press(to foot operated) and a punch and die set that I made to move freely but is attached by two pieces of strap to stay in register. I put pics of the setup in my album along with more progress shots but I haven't learned how to attach them so that they show up in a post yet.

Mike, nice job of the running boards. Like the way you converted the arbor press to a kick press. Interesting way you came up with to keep the dies aligned. Thanks for posting the pictures, hope to see more.

Nice job on the fenders and running boards!, don`t think its ugly looks actually pretty cool!

I agree with Charger thats cool

Wow, nice work.
I like the arbour press idea. Quite a versatile tool and that's important when you haven't got a lot of space. Mmmm might have to start saving :)

Thanks guys. The arbor press probably gets the most use of just about any of the shaping tools I have. Side benefit, I now kick like a mule.

I LOVE the project Mike. Also impressed with what you've done with the arbor press.

I pulled these out of your album and rotated them. My brain just can't see sideways.

Are these thumbnail dies in here? Or do you have a Pullmax or something?

Thanks Kerry!
Those are thumbnail dies and they work really well. Every one of the stacked marks is one step on the pedal. My wife goes to the gym, I just do a round of shrinks. One more piece of cake? Sure, I built a fender today.

I don't have a Pullmax but I did build a reciprocating machine based on ideas I took from the group design dedicated shrinker. The shrinking dies I made for that dont work as well as the ones for the foot press though so I keep going back to the calorie burner. These are the only pics I have of it, in it's unfinished state. It's since completed and works wonderfully thanks to the generous contributions from all of the members here. and I have a total of $28.00 in the whole thing. Well that"s a lie, I just bought a foot switch from HF for 14 bucks.
